City Park West Neighborhood Watch — June 2026 Monthly Recap

Summary

  • DPD District 2 flagged an uptick in garage thefts on the south end of City Park West (open garages and locked side-entry doors; bikes and tools taken). Paula distributed a community PSA per DPD's request.
  • The TGP Good Neighbor Committee met June 24 as scheduled; agenda covered TGP gate/security and lighting plans, a DPD calls-for-service and safety-perception briefing (Hana R., Isabella C., Mike B.), and an open question about neighbors possibly missing from GNC distribution. Attendance shifted slightly — Kyle T. was traveling and asked Robin R. to cover; Revision Inc. designated Heath D. (Holiday Chalet Manager) as their ongoing GNC contact.

Safety Incidents

Garage Theft Uptick — South End of City Park West (flagged June 1)

DPD District 2 Command alerted the neighborhood to an increase in garage thefts on the south end of City Park West. Both open garages and locked side-person entry doors are being targeted; bikes, tools, and other items have been taken. DPD's recommended precautions: close garage doors, lock side entry doors, register bikes (with serial numbers), and photograph/inventory tools.

DPD District 2 Crime Bulletins (circulated June 3 via Christie M.)

  • Shooting — 3000 block of Champa Street
  • Robbery — 1300 block of N. Krameria Street
  • Community safety asks reiterated: remove valuables from vehicles; register and lock bikes; keep garage doors closed; do not leave firearms unsecured in vehicles (Colorado law)

2CAB Meeting — June 3

District 2 Community Advisory Board met June 3, 6 PM at the District 2 Station (3921 Holly St.), Commander Aragon presiding, with guest Sgt. Gates (Street Racing Enforcement Unit). Remaining 2026 2CAB dates: September 2, October 7, November 4, December 2.

Traffic / Construction Advisories (East Colfax BRT)

  • Night work, Clarkson & Colfax: June 12–16 (announced June 5).
  • York & Colfax closure, June 24: Initially announced as night work (June 17), corrected the next day to daytime work causing a southbound closure. Exact hours were not specified in the notice — worth confirming with the Colfax BRT project page before relaying further to residents.
  • Colfax reopening milestone: The June 2026 East Colfax BRT newsletter (June 12) announced Colfax Ave. will reopen from Broadway to Colorado Blvd. this fall — a significant corridor milestone worth flagging to residents.

Resident Observations and Themes

Resident-facing communications this month came from daily Gmail/Nextdoor digests and, newly incorporated this revision, the "High and Race St Safety" WhatsApp group. Observed themes:

  • Garage and property security remains top of mind. DPD's own repeated messaging (garage thefts, bike registration, vehicle valuables) tracks with the pattern flagged in May's recap — this appears to be a sustained, not one-off, concern for the south end of the neighborhood.
  • DPD giveaway events are landing well with residents. On WhatsApp (June 15), Paula shared a firsthand account of attending a DPD giveaway event — a free steering-wheel CLUB, a free AirTag (confirmed Android-compatible via Samsung SmartThings, after a resident asked), and plans to register her bike at DPD's bike-recovery garage. Residents expressed interest in a repeat event if demand is there.
  • Storm damage prompted a wave of mutual-aid recommendations, not safety concerns. A June 1 hailstorm ("ping pong ball sized," per one resident) prompted a multi-day WhatsApp thread comparing roofers and auto hail-repair shops — a community-resilience data point, not a security matter.
  • A tree-hazard safety note surfaced informally. On June 8, a resident (Beth) posted photos of storm-damaged, dangling tree limbs and warned neighbors to be careful where they park, noting several trees on the block have similar issues. Not DPD-relevant, but worth relaying to Parks/Forestry if not already reported.
  • TGP Good Neighbor Committee coordination continues, and the group grew slightly. The June 24 meeting covered gate/security and lighting updates, a DPD briefing, and an open question about whether neighbors (e.g., a contact from the Hinds office) are still missing from GNC distribution.

Specific Asks of DPD

  1. Garage theft pattern detail — requesting any additional specifics (blocks, timing) DPD can share on the south-end garage theft uptick, to sharpen the resident PSA and any patrol request.
  2. Carried forward from May, no update received in June:
    • Case 26-0800079 (TGP stabbing, May 14) — status/charges update.
    • Improved 911/311 response in the CPW/Race/High corridor.
    • Dedicated patrol of the Race St./High St. alley.
    • TGP alcove enforcement follow-up.
    • Clarity on enforcement activity at the 1900 block of E. 16th Ave.
    • Video evidence submission process for resident-collected footage.
    • No-trespassing agreement distribution to relevant TGP-area locations.

TGP Good Neighbor Committee

Facilitator Steve C. (Find Solutions) circulated the draft agenda (June 16, resent June 21) for the June 24, 9 AM GNC meeting. Agenda:

    • TGP — gate/security plans; exterior lighting
    • DPD (Hana R., Isabella C., Mike B.) — calls-for-service data; general perception of safety issues; what's working/improved
    • Neighborhood & commercial updates — tree trimming; an email from a contact at Councilman Hinds' office who seemed unaware of the GNC (raising the open question of whether neighbors are still missing from GNC distribution); coordination with Paula's newsletter
  3. Next meeting: Thursday, September 9 at 9 AM

Agenda feedback was due to Steve by Friday, June 20. No post-meeting summary/minutes had circulated via Gmail as of the archive's current cutoff — worth confirming with Steve whether one is forthcoming, particularly on the open "missing GNC neighbors" question.
